Dwarves

Dwarven society is very simple, they have one king per territory, and everyone else in that territory follows his rule. This society is very reclusive, often blocking off anyone who tries to enter into the cities. They are miners, and master craftsman, selling their wares in market places all over the world. They do not care of what happens to the world, as long as the world does not try to enter into their areas. Everyone in the community helps each other, no one is better, no one is worse, and all are equal. If a dwarf should break the laws, he is then shammed in front of the kingdom by having his beard shaved off. This is the ultimate punishment, and will often result in the suicide of the shaved dwarf. Out of all the dwarves, there are two types, those who live in great mountain halls, and those who live on hills. Both these kinds of dwarfs have resentment toward the other. The mountain dwarves view the hill dwarves as arrogant creatures that shun their brothers to live in a world that is corrupt. While the hill dwarves view the mountain dwarves as stupid beings who are cowards and hide inside the earth to prevent anyone from getting close.

Both races have a lot in common though; they both are master craftsmen who make beautiful artwork out of everything they touch. They are also both very rough to everyone, especially elves, and see people as too soft for their own good. Kender are loved and hated by the dwarves, because the kender are so innocent looking the dwarf usually sees the kender as his/her own child that needs direction. They will often take those of weaker status under their wings and try to raise them to be good people, for the dwarves know what it is like to be exiled from your own race. Many people find that a dwarf, while gruff and mean most of the time, is really kind hearted and nice, and does not want to be seen weak by his brothers or by those who are around him.

Dwarven warriors are among the best in the world. Their short, stocky, dense bodies offer them a great advantage in battle. When a dwarf plants his feet and readies himself then there is no force, short of a dragon or a god, which can move them. Dwarves often form living walls that no army has been able to penetrate.

The history of the Mountain Dwarves is a tragic one to be sure. When they were created, the Mountain Dwarves held peace with their brothers, the Hill dwarves. Back then, there was no segregation of the Dwarves, and all was well. There was no fighting, no disagreements, nothing. After the War of Dominance, the untrusting dwarves walled themselves inside deep Mountain Halls, exiling themselves from the world, from their point of view, keeping the cares of the world away. The dwarves that break the law have their beards shaven on their first transgression, and if they cross the law again, they are exiled from the Mountain Halls, forced out into the world. Mountain Dwarves have been known to die from the sheer shock of this judgment. The Hill Dwarves broke away from the Mountain Dwarves long ago, opting to give up their own self imposed exile in order to trade food and goods with neighboring races and cultures.

Reclusive and xenophobic, Mountain Dwarves hate the outside world, preferring to remain in their underground lairs, digging deeper into the rock and soil. Only a select few venture out in search of needed supplies. Due to their standoffish demeanor, they are often seen as untrusting and secretive. Due to the Hill Dwarves tolerance of other races, Hill Dwarven culture has been greatly influenced by other race's cultures, but still hasn't lost it's own unique flavor. Hill Dwarves are tolerant and loyal to their friends, and often have a good sense of humor, but this humor is often hidden behind a stone wall. Hill Dwarves will act gruff and uncaring toward even their friends, rarely showing that they have feelings for them, but this attitude is a sign that they care, and they will jump to the front line of any fight when their friends are involved.

Sometimes they are named after rocks, such as Flint, Jasper, Slate, etc. Surnames are often descriptive of their personalities and duties, including Armorbender, Axesmelter, Irontwister, Rockbiter, etc. There eyes and their full, thick beards and long hair are dark earth tones, usually brown, gray, or black. Hill Dwarves have slightly more bleached hair due to their exposure to the sun. Their skin tones are similar to those of humans, though they are usually never pale. Shorter than humans by at least a foot, they are solidly built, weighing in at 250-400 pounts.

Humans

Humans have been walking the world for as long as can be remembered, and no one knows exactly when or where they came into being. They are the most versatile of all races in personality, ability, and looks, as anyone with the drive (and perhaps decent breeding) can be anything they want to be from an evil archmage dictator to a humble follower of the gods. The longer-lived races don't always take kindly to the 'mortal' humans.

Lizardmen

It is unknown where exactly Lizardmen came from. It is a widely believed theory that they evolved from simple Lizards due to a random Wizard's spell. Since then, however, Lizardmen have never gotten along amongst themselves, strife frequently causing wars between the tribes, until, finally, it got to the point of there being no pause between wars. The wars continued on, without end, and most believe it will never end.

Their names vary by tribe, almost always including a 'hissing' sound. These creatures have tails that are as long as the lizardman’s body is tall. Ranging from 4 feet 6 inches to 7 feet in height, they weigh anywhere from 150 to 300 pounds respectively. Their thick, scaly skin is as tough as it is unique, the patterened greenish scales defining each one as separate. The patterns are as different as one snowflake to the next. Green, blue, and brown eyes are frequently seen amongst Lizardmen.

Minotaur

Little is known about the history of this race. It is shrouded in secrecy and mystery, and is rarely, if ever, revealed to those outside the Tribe. The Minotaur, when first created, were found only on islands, forcing them to learn to navigate the waters. This brought them fame as great sailors, as well as allowed them the freedom to move about as they pleased. Preferring to live an uninterrupted life, Minotaur are very territorial, and will fight to the death over their tribe or land. However, that aside, they are only violent or brutal when at war. Often, they seek to prove their strength in battle, fighting in the arena, or adventuring for fame. Revenge and curiosity are also powerful driving forces to them.

With the body of a human, and the head of a bull, Minotaur are frequently seen as monsters and demons, but are only violent or brutal when at war. Minotaur are covered with dark fur, and have hooves instead of feet. Standing 8 to 10 feet tall, they weigh about 400 to 600 pounds.

Oh, and don't use 'moo' or 'cow' around them...

Orcs

Orc Society is much like human society, with leaders, enforcers, and commoners. The difference is that the Orc battle to gain position in the society. If an Orc wants to become the leader of his tribe, then he is to fight the leader and all the other Orcs that want to be leader. This often leads to death of all of the members but one. And the one who is left standing, is crowned the new leader. Due to this concept, and that so many battles were waging every day, the Orc enforcers put into place an annual contest to choose a new leader. This contest consists of a bracket system where 16 possible candidates will fight each other to the death over a week period to see who is the champion.

Outside of this, the Orc are militaristic, the commoners grow food for The Hoard (the Orc nation), the enforcers prepare for battle, and the leaders decide who will be attacked. Negotiations with the Orc leaders often lead to the death of the negotiator, as the Orc do not like to give in. In battle the Orcs never flee, never move, and never stop the attack until there is none left. Anyone unfortunate to be on the field of battle will see what they think is a mindless rabble that growls, grunts, bangs weapons against shields, and charges without thought. But the well-trained soldier knows that this attack is a wave that will crash and take out many numbers. When the first wave stops, the second wave of Orc do the same thing.

Orc are a smart race, rivaling intelligence of humans, and often planning tactics, ambushes, and sabotage against their enemies. Inside their community, the Orc have a ladder that people can climb to make it into the army, for to die in battle is the greatest Orc desire. This chain starts at commoner, then to zomquad, fodder, piker, archer, and then enforcer. The last is rarely met, and is only made up by the strongest Orcs. Anyone weak who got lucky enough to make it to this rank will have to face a trial of might against an enforcer to see if they have the right to take their place in this prestigious rank. Anyone who has proven their worth, will be marked with a hot iron brand, if they scream in pain, they are considered weak and are killed. If they do not scream, they are often beat by their comrades as a welcome into this order.

With dark green or black, splotched skin, and reddish or bright amber eyes, these hideous creatures strike fear into the hearts of most with but a glance. Their stringy, pale hair hangs limply or is tied back if it is long enough. They stand on average slightly taller than humans, adding to their imposing appearance.

Thri-Kreen

Appearing much like a gigantic praying mantis, these bug-creatures have four arms, two legs, a hard yellow-brown exoskeleton, mandibles instead of a humanoid mouth, pincers for hands, and antennae. Their compound bug eyes, usually brown green or black, are protected from the sun due to their simple but effective construction. Standing 6 to 8 feet tall, they can weigh anywhere from 250 to 500 pounds.

Because of their bug-like physique, they can speak only in clicks and chirps, but can communicate to other beings despite this by making the chirps and clicks resemble recognizable syllables, much like a parrot. They are also able to make weapons out of dirt and their saliva; this makes them more dangerous, in that they will never be weaponless.

Thri-Kreen society is almost non-existent. They live in deserts and forests, roaming on their own, and occasionally forming hunting packs with other Thri-Kreen. These packs only stay together until the hunt is completed. It is believed that there is a hive that contains thousands of Thri-Kreen in the desert, away from people. But no one has ever seen this hive, or made it back through the desert to show any evidence. The Thri-Kreen always eats meat, but rarely hunt any intelligent beings. They do love the taste of elf though, and this makes for very difficult relations between the two races. Thri-Kreen are hired though to hunt after dark elves, and are paid well as long as they bring back some type of evidence that the dark elf has been killed. The Thri-Kreen would actually do this willingly, but make no mention of it.
