Aquatic Elves

Born of the sea, these elves spend all their time in the water, living inside great cities of coral. No one knows where these cities are, and spend life times looking for them. This race is much like the elves of the land, not trusting anyone who comes in, but unlike their land dwelling brothers, they will capture anyone who comes in and force them into slavery. They are more militaristic then the land elves, but not as much as the Drow. The most elite of the Aquatic Elves can use limited magic and can turn into dolphins in order to scout fishing vessels, war ships, and other things that move in the water. Anyone on a ship that sinks over an aquatic elf city is considered a criminal for dropping debris on their city. If an elf is killed because of this, the offender is often killed in a public display. These elves will treat their land brothers as guests, even if they did commit a crime, but like the land elves, this guest is often a well treated criminal, that is guarded for their entire stay.

Similar to most of their cousins from the land, they name themselves after the life of the sea and their specialties, such as Shark-tamer and Tide-bringer. Their eyes, skin, and hair generally match the hues of their natural surroundings, with blends of silver, green, and blue. Due to their greater density than land dwelling elves, they weigh a bit more, coming in at 100-140 lbs, and are a mere 4 to 5 feet tall.

Aquatic elves have gill slits much like fish, through which they process oxygen. They can also survive out of water for a short time by breathing. The overall effect of their physical coloration is one that makes them difficult to discern underwater, especially near kelp beds. Because of their coloring, they gain the typical elven ability to camouflage themselves in their natural environment. They do not have tails.

Dark Elves

This is the title given to any elf that happens to get exiled. They are wanderers, and are always hunted by their kind who have cast them out into shame, these elves will wander their entire lives in attempt to find a place that they can stay, and not have to worry about their brothers hunting them. Anyone who becomes a dark elf will never be allowed to enter back into the territory they are from, for this label is never removed, even when the dark elf dies. These elves are not necessarily evil; they are just merely exiled from their homes.

Drow

These elves are militaristic; they hate all surface dwellers and actually get along quite well with deep dragons. Their society is lived in a massive country underground, where sunlight never shows. They hate all elves, seeing them as a bastard race that has shunned out their brothers. They have trials of strength to prove their love for their god; failure turns these elves into loathsome beasts that hate everything, even the Drow. In this society you are a warrior, a mage, a priest, or a commoner, with only one hope of making it out, the trial to your god. Note: These elves are not to be confused with Dark Elves.

Rather than live in the trees, these tortured elves turned to darkness, retreating into the shadows of the Underdark. No one is quite sure where exactly they live, though they guess the realm lies under the Ria, Poxia, and Uioa, along with parts of Morid and Clinta. They spend their days in preparation for war against their above-ground dwelling cousins, and in worship of their dark god Iremo.

With glowing red, orange, or yellow, eyes; stark silvery white hair; and dark gray to black skin, these elves are physically at odds with their above-ground cousins. Their muscled bodies are tight and corded from their cramped cavern homes. Their fingers are long and have an additional joint in them to accommodate their silent hand language. They are slight in build, only 4 1/2 to 5 feet tall, the women being taller.

High Elves

The Elven historians write that High Elves were most beloved of the Elves, blessed by their gods to rule over all others. This probably isn’t true, but they believe it whole-heartedly. Because of this fact, they have become self-absorbed and arrogant, building delicate looking, but nearly impenetrable cities, not only in forests but in plains as well. They tend to shoot first and ask questions later when it comes to trespassers, but they will not mistreat a prisoner.

These elves are very snobbish, not liking anyone; not even those elves that are lower in rank then them. These elves make communities behind walls, where they are protected by guards that live in the forests and on the walls themselves. These guards are specialists, trained with a bow for so long, that they can easily pick off a flea in heavy brush at 20 meters. The ruling bodies of elves spend most of their time arguing over what would be best for the elven communities, and often get no where. The one main leader of the elven nation is often viewed as a puppet to do the will of the council, because the council, sometimes with suggestions, almost always influences the ruler. Sometimes this is even done with hidden threats. These elves dislike all other races, seeing an outsider as one who wants to potentially pollute their pure bloodline. Half-breeds are often cast out to live alone in the wilderness or with humans, who trust them little also.

With their pointed ears, pale skin, and angular features, these beings are considered some of the most beautiful on Seregon. Green, brown, or even amber eyes are common, though blue is rare and considered an omen. Their hair is generally platinum to light blonde, with extremely rare pale strawberry-blonde cropping up about as often as blue eyes. They range in height from 5' to 6' tall, and seem painfully light at only 85 to 120 pounds. Shying from the names chosen by their cousins, they choose to name themselves after feelings and flowers, specifically, also using the Elven equivalent.

Winged Elves

This breed of elf is extremely rare, and is the only elf that is accepted by the high elves, and wood elves, both seeing these brethren as an angel rather then an elf itself. These elves are spotted easily because of their beautiful wings, which also makes them look out of place anywhere but in the wilderness. The winged elves live in the mountains, and often overlook the areas to make sure that nothing evil is running around free. They are much smarter then their land-based brothers, but are not as strong. When they need to attack a foe, they often do so from the sky, knowing that most cannot harm them. Their society is one of loose restrictions; this is because they do not like to be tied down to rules and regulations, including the leaders. Most races that visit the winged elves are met with kindness and caring. These elves see no point in being rude to anyone.

Kind and caring, these folk often heal needy adventurers that wander into their territory. Rather than squabble over land, they will shift slightly when pressed by other races rather than start a war. They do fear giants, however, who view their wings as trophies and use them to decorate their massive helms. History: Though they are elves by definition, and carry the fine features and pointed elves, that is basically where the similarities end. They were created separately from the other races, having a different inner physiology and the obvious wings to separate them. Dwelling in the mountains and higher ground forest areas, they spend their days training and playing and flying, just because they can.

Their wings are their prized features, spreading double the elf’s own height in width. The wings are generally snow white, though a range of colors can be found easily. Consisting of a delicate structure of tiny bones and sinew, the only thing visible to a passerby would be the huge number of tightly packed feathers, reminiscent of birds’ wings. They also have strong, but hollow bones. Fair and angelic, they tend toward pale hair colors, from platinum to rich gold. Often they use inks and natural dyes to alter their hair color to match their wings. These elves are set apart not only for their wings, but also their commonplace number of blue eyes. Violet, amber, green, and even a stormy gray are also known to them. Due to the weight of the wings and the reduced weight of their hollow bones, they tend to be anywhere from 175-250 lbs., depending on height and muscularity. Fairly short, they range from 4’9” to 5’10”.

Wood Elves

Once members of the High Elven race, they soon tired of the stiff politics and selfish views. When the High Elves took their vanity a step further and began building monumental cities, the traditionalists left, desiring to be free and enjoy their ties to the woods. Preferring solitude, these elves will hide from strangers, often watching those who enter and only attacking if they feel threatened, or if the interloper comes too close to their home. Even then, it would probably be a warning shot, inviting them not-so-subtly to leave. When confronted with a stranger who proves their worth, they are kind if a little uneasy. They understand magic, simply don’t have the materials or desire to learn it. Often they are imprisoned or enslaved by other races due to the mistaken belief that the Wood Elves are mindless barbarians. That being said, motivations to adventure include escaping their captors, endeavoring to learn new things to better the defenses of the Wood Elf realm, or simply to see what is to be seen in the world.

Wood elves are a breed that spends most of its time in hiding. These elves are hostile to anyone that enters their area, even elves that are not wood elves. A leader, usually a priest of some sort, who has insight and wisdom, rules the wood elf society. These elves live in trees and on the ground, with the ground communities being more mobile, and always on the move. These elves are better then any other elf with the bow, and make no noise when walking through the woods. These elves have no desire to live in cities, and view the high elves as prisoners, who are trapped behind their own greed for money and power. These elves are often seen as barbarians in the eyes of the other races, because of their lifestyle, and seemingly lack of order. But contrary to this belief, the wood elves have a very strict sense of order, often consisting of several ranks within the community; these are hunters, gatherers, warriors, and priests.

Sharply pointed ears, fine features, and well-toned bodies are the only marks on this fierce and free race of elves. All Wood Elves move completely silently, even in the woods. Their hair colors include blonde, brown, and on rare occasions warranting a holy day, a red-head is born. Their eyes range in colors: green, brown, hazel, and on very rare occasions, amber, violet, or blue. Slightly shorter than other elves, they stand roughly 4’5” to 5’9”, but due to their well-toned muscles, they are slightly more dense than other land-dwelling elves, weighing in at around 95 to 125 pounds.
